Oil Safety

Here are some important tips to remember when using essential oils:

  • Essential oils can be put anywhere on your body and almost anywhere in your body… but we should NEVER put oils in our eyes or ears!

  • Be careful with oils that are considered “hot” on your skin, like Thieves and Peppermint. Dilute with a carrier oil before applying those topically.

  • It’s recommended to dilute more heavily for children, since their skin is even thinner.

  • Never attempt to dilute an oil with water. Oil and water don’t mix. Use a carrier oil instead.…

  • If you do get an oil in your eye, add some carrier oil – don’t wash it out with water, that will simply drive the EO in deeper.

  • Never apply oils directly into your bath water. Use Epsom salts to disperse into the water or put the oils directly into a gel bath base. Young Living has a plain gel bath base that works great! You do not want the oils to pool on top of the water where they could concentrate and irritate the skin.

  • Always use glass or stainless steel containers if you are ingesting citrus oils, like Lemon. Citrus oils help detox, so they will pull the chemicals from a plastic container into whatever is inside the container. We definitely don’t want to ingest those chemicals!
